my sub has been randomly shutting down in the middle of songs for short periods of time. it happens maybe once every 45 seconds and lasts for about 5-10 seconds. it also seems to happen when the volume is up higher. i'm running an infinity basslink II with a basic panasonic deck (50w x 4). if anyone has any ideas what the problem could be (loose wires, not enough power,etc.) i'd love to hear! thanks.

 

It may be the overheat circuit.

 

I doubt its an overheating circuit. Chances are its lacking power. First of all check the amps ground....make sure its a good solid ground and that all the paint is scraped off of the surface, so the gold plated connector is touching METAL. What gauge wire are you using, and what kind of electronics....wattage would be nice too. I would first check the ground.....is the amp bridged? The sub may be too powerful for the amp.....let me know

 

^ Pete hit the nail on the head. Its a wiring problem. Your amp is only shutting down to protect itself. disconnect the remote wire immediatly and remove the fuse in the power line until you get a chance to sit down with it.

 

As he said, its a infinity basslink, it has a built in amp. The amp that is built in should be the perfect amp for the sub. But just like pete said, check your ground, and make sure your running at least 8awg power wire.

 

like padresfan said it's a basslink so it's a sub/amp combo, i would imagine they would be a good match. i will check the ground though and let you guys know what happens, thanks.

 

Where the ground is connected...make sure you thoroughly scrape the paint off. That is one of the most common issues.

 

well i tried reconnecting the ground and scraping some more paint off and it doesnt seem to have helped. Is it possible that I'm pushing it too hard, i have the gain all the way up and the remote all the way up. Any ideas?

 

yeah you could be pushing it too hard. does the amp get really hot?

 

havent really checked how hot it gets, i'll check next time
