Default Tweeter / component question

Hi, this is sorta a dead horse post since it's been asked many times. I've reviewed every thread I could find about tweeter installation and component speakers and I guess I'm still a little bit lost.

I have a 99 Civic Sedan LX and I want to buy some component speakers; in fact, I was thinking about these:

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1086020...ce-6020cs.html

I've liked my Infinity speakers in the past, though this would be my first component speaker installation. Anyways, my car isn't outfit with any time of tweeter mounts, so I'm assuming that I need to remove the door panels, mount the crossover in the arm-rest, and cut holes for the tweeters somewhere need the top of the panel. Can anyone verify this? Is there a kit to actually mount the tweeters or is this a pretty DIY installation? Also, do I just take the stock speaker wiring and run it to the crossover, and then run my own speaker wiring the the 6 inch speaker and additional wiring to the tweeter?

Thanks, I really did try to find all this on my own, so hopefully I won't get flamed too hard. If anyone knows any do-it-yourself articles, I'm all eyes.

EDIT - I meant to add one thing too... speaker baffles for the front door... any verdict on these? I haven't taken off my front door panels to assess how waterproof they are; can anyone tell me if I should buy extra material to make sure my door speakers stay dry? I read on another forum that sometimes people cut the baffles in half to attempt keeping the speaker dry whilst not totally screwing up the sound quality...

There are way better speakers for the money. Not saying the infinty's are horrible....go check out sound solution audio forums. Amazing place filled with way too much info lol.

This is pretty much a DIY...and you have 6.5" speakers, and the magnet won't fit so you'll have to cut out the plastic a little.

I'm looking at the forum right now... I guess I'm just curious about pointers specific to my 99 Civic.

As far as finding better speakers for the price, I went to Crutchfield and searched for component by highest customer ranking. You think I should maybe post this same thread on the forum you mentioned?

Thanks for the help

SO the infintys aren't horrible...I actually have infinity reference series all around. they're a bit harsh on high frequencies but they are good speakers...they just aren't the best for the money And you'll definitely need those subs lol

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe if they duke it out for a few, I'll figure out how to best spend the money. I had infinity coaxials in my other car and I liked them just fine, but you're right, a little harsh. Hey, so you have any thoughts on those tweeter pods that sometimes frequent ebay? Or would you just cut the big whopping hole in your panel? A pod that actually aimed the tweeter at my face would be kinda neat, like the ones that mount near the mirror area... don't see any for a 4d sedan though. Time to grab a hole saw. LOL.

I used to install these all the time, you say that you have no tweeter mounts? If not probably best to install them on the door, it looks sweet! you just need to get a circle cutting drill bit that is slightly smaller than the tweet and drill the hole through the door panel (make sure you check depth before you drill) you would have a flush mounted tweeter at this point. as far as the crossover installation question, I always attached velcro to the back of the cross over and slapped it do the back left inside of the door shell where the window wont hit it and water wont get in to it. Get a sheet of dynomat to put behind your 6 1/2 and put it on the inner door shell over the whole where the sticky side will face the back of the speaker it doesnt have to be custom or anything and the 6 1/2 might rub on it a little bit but it makes it sound way better because your signal is not bouncing all around the inner door shell (trick of the trade) For your wiring, you can always wire the factory to it but if you have aftermarket radio I wouldnt recommend it. You are adding these for better sound and thicker gauge wire all around would sound SOOOO much better and clearer. I installed tons of infinity reference's they are great speakers. I recommend an amp too if you dont have one to run them. Your doors will bass so hard if you amplify them! Let me know if you need any more help!

is there a particular spot on the door that you've found that allows you to direct the tweeter towards your head fairly well? i'm guessing i'll just sorta have to setting with the tweeters aiming at each other instead of myself and the passenger seat... either way though, it sounds like a fun upgrade to do! i just wish i could aim them a little bit, and unfortunately, i know nothing about fiberglass. i've been looking at some of the dampening materials and it seems like i just need to cover as much door surface as possible aye? i think i saw a kit with like 36x24 inches or something... that seems like it'd do two doors fairly well...
