Default Tweeter location debate!

okay here it is:
I have been thinking about getting kick panel enclosures. I was discussing this with my roomate who is a big stereo guy (home stereo's, not car), and I told him what they were and all that. Then he proceeds to tell me that it might be a bad idea for sound quality because "the tweeters should be farther away from the main speakers" for some reason which I forget right now. He also added that the tweeters optimal location should be in the dash close to the bottom corners of the windshield. This is the opposite of what I always thought! I believe the tweeters are designed to compliment the main speaker portion thus it would sound better if they were in close proximity to one another!
So, I want to know what you guys think. Is it better for the tweeter to be at a higher location than the main speaker, or to have them close together!

Ir depends on the preference... no tweeters spread too far apart will make it sound 'off'

IMO its better to have everything spread far apart, this equals surround sound, like a home theater effect, music from all directions of the car. Thats what I would do, spread it out.

i think the high's would travel the whole vehicle by being placed in the windsheild area, i think maybe thats why your roommate suggested there, becuase of the nature of the the sound waves travel,, and as long as doesnt cause something to vibrate.... i detest vibrations in my sound system

ok this is where u are going to put ur tweeter. The speaker is in the bottom of the door, and the black box is the cross over. Put your tweeter on the top of the door like pictures. You will be satisfied with the results.
