Default What size wire?

I am rewiring my amp because the previous owner did a **** poor job. I was wondering if a 10 guage power wire would be enough to supply my subs? They are 1200watt Alpine with a Rockford Fosgate p4004 amp. Thanks

I'm confused..are you running a 1200 watt alpine amp or a rockford amp?

if its a 400 watt go with 8 gauge. 10 gauge usually only recommended up to about 200-250 watts rms, 8 gauge is best up to around 500 watts rms

I think that you proabily have 2 x 12" 1200W 2 way Legacy woofers with LEDs. In that case 8awg ftw.

No I dont have legacy subs. The box is legacy but the subs were replaced with Alpine 12". Butanyway I already hooked it up with 1awg and it still doesnt work. I replaced all the wiring and bought new remote wire and ground wire. I hooked everything up and the amp light goes on but no sound??? I dont know if maybe my amp burnt out and its junk or if Im just missing somthing in the wiring.

I have a 12guage wire from the deck to my amp for REM. a 1awg for my power and 1awg for the GND. I have new RCA cables strait from the deck to the amp and 12 guage from the amp to the subs.

sounds funky to me. Maybe you have to turn the subs on with your deck, if it has that option, for the signal to start flowing, otherwise i dunno.. could be the amp. make sure the gain's on and what not, speakers are all wired correctly in the box, all the general troubleshooting stuff.

What do you mean by turning on the subs with the deck? Turn the radio off then on again?

some radios have a sub pre-out (RCAs) that needs to be turned. if you still have the manual look it up. if you don't have the manual find in on the internet. if your radio doesn't have that feature, then either the rca terminals or the speaker output terminals are messed up and the only way to get that fixed is if it is still under warranty, then contact rockford

does your amp have fuses on it. check them if you do..

if not take it to a stereo shop to have it bench tested to see if its ok.
