i just wanted to ask everyone where they thought they come from....in the cabin or in the trunk.I know i have some inside that i still have to take care of i just need to find out exactly where.Just let me know what tricks and ideas you guys have about all this.Gaining db's and just overrall sound is better by fixing this but everyone knows rattles could never be completely gotten rid of.

 

I always start with the trunk and work my way up.

Usualy if its in the trunk cabin itself, its something like a bracket, wire, tire part or accessory (like a lug wrench or jack) thats not correctly secured, and rubbing metal somewhere or another, maybe the spare tire is loose, etc..

Then if its outside I check the liscense plat and brackets. Usualy that is a major source, if a plate has a frame, which I don't, or if your plate is loose somehow. Simple insulation will usualy dull them down to near zero.

If its inside the car, most times it is somewhere in the back panel there. You also have to remember that that bass = pressure, and the pressure has to escape the trunk and move throughout the trunk. Sometimes it pushes up on your rear speakers, which can dammage them overtime, or cause them to distort unreasonably. I often leave my small seat slightly adjar so that some of that pressure can escape the trunk into the cabin that way. You will notice a huge difference if you try this, but if you haul people around all the time, sometimes thats not an option.

If you have rattles up in the front part of the cabin, its just kind of trial and error to find them. Try to narrow it down, could be a wiring harness vibrating against metal somewhere, basicly you want to isolate anything in the car that might pick up vibration and touch something else. Even electrical tape can stop a metal on metal rattle, if its simple enough.

Thats about all I can suggest. They suck, but they are always there. I notice in my honda that since I insulated the trunk with foam insulation on the inside roof of the trunk, and opened my small seat slightly that there is no rattle at all. Even on the outside. Dynamat won't really aid in fixing them either, it just helps keep your music in and road noise out.For the most part, rattles are just things touching things, if thats an easy way to state it.

Look for screws, bolts, loose wiring, braces, metal parts or tools, anything that might touch something without any rubber/foam protection.

 

well most of my rattle is coming from the rear deck lid and i know this....i think it might have something to do with my 6x9's being screwed in the metel but i havent had time yet to really look.Im thinking about maybe putting some weather stripping around the outside of the rear deck lid area and then putting it the top back on top of that.I also think some of the noise is coming from the that plastic where the rear seatbelts are rubbing against the window but im not sure.I took the rear seatbelts out because i never have anyone ride in the back and thats also why i always have my seats down back there too.I just wanted to see if you guys have some things that maybe i didnt think about....BTW thx for the input stu.

 

I can honestly say that the plastic might be making some of that sound. It seems like I have noticed it from time to time.

I wouldn't know where to start fixing it though, unless I took it out and started looking under it, maybe insulating the parts that touch the frame of the cabin, or the floor sections. Hope ya get them all out, I know its hell but a little trial and error will get you that sound you've been looking for.

 

for rattling dynomat if you can afford it is your best friend

 

well i think dynamat is really overrated....i think you just mainly pay for the name...if i had the money i would get raamat...i still might later on when i have the money.

 

yea i gave up on ttrying to find out wat rattles...i thoguth i found it a couple of times and then turns out i was wrong....everything frigin rattles everywhere in my car, i have simply given up lol
