Default Wire Question

I have a few questions about sound system wires and such.

Ive got a Sony 1000W amp pushing my Pioneer 10"s, but the only wire kit I was able to buy at the time was one for like 225watts. I can turn the radio up about 25% of the way, then the power wires' fuse blows. I need to get a bigger ga. power wire I know, would a 8ga work? or should I just go with 4ga?

Also, Ive seen/heard people having a ground wire that was big (5ga or bigger) What is the plus to this, if any? My girlfriends car has a 4ga ground wire that I pulled out, and Ill put it on my amp if its a good idea. She also has a 5ga(i think) power wire that ill be putting in my car.

8 ga will work fine on that amp cause it only puts out 500 real watts..... but i would run 4 ga and be done with it in case you ever upgrade...... a cars 12 volt system acts like a garden hose... if you have a kink in a hose what happens.... if you have big power wire but a small ground wire it's gonna create resistance... not good

I'm thinking about going and buying a new wiring kit right now.
I'm getting one with bigger gauge wire, I won't be able to put it all on right now, but would it hurt to put on a bigger gauge ground wire and speaker wire and leave my small power wire for a few more days?

going bigger can never hurt, you can put a bigger ground wire, a bigger power wire, itnever hurts. it's when you go smaller, than its not good. it is important to get good ground cause it goes fromyour amp threw the wire you put to the frame, then all the way threw the car to the front, then threw your stock small crappy rusted wires (wich would be a good idea to change) then to your battery. Your live on the other hand is directly from your battery to fuse than to amp, better connection.

I had 8 gauge wire at first, then i went to ebay and bought 4 gauge wire. With the same system i hear the difference. Definitively go with the bigger one.
