Default Question for other pshoppers...

Anyone know how to take a small image, make it bigger, then clear it up?

Obvoiusly I know how to make it bigger, and I can usually manage to sharpen the image a little, but not nearly to my liking.

You know how you always see on t.v. shows liek CSI, where they take the image and clear it up to near perfect specs, is that even possible with basic software??

Yes. Sometimes. Depending on how much, and what type of image it is. A photo? line art? something else?

No, CSI is full of crap
Software like Genuine Fractals works sometimes, but I'm not convinced that it's better than the interpolation algorithms in Photoshop.

at first I laughed at that, and then I thought "what the hell are you laughing at, you knew what she was talking about.."

Anywho, I figured the level at which "blur clearing" is done on tv/movies was blown well outta proportion, but it was worth a shot.

Basically what I want to do, is take someones MSN picture (the little one in the chat window), blow it up enough to really see whats going on in it, then clear it up.

Forty, sounds like what you want to do isn't going to be possible... you can't really invent detail that isn't there. You can try enlarging it 200% in Photoshop, just do file > image size, and then enter the new dimensions. Make sure you have "resample image" checked, and try it with all 3 methods: "nearest neighbor," "bilinear," and "bicubic." The first one is better for line art, the last one is better for photos.

But it probably won't help you.

yeah, been there, tried that, didnt really help. See, the thing is, the pic is crystal clear in small form, its the up-sizing that adds the blur.

Oh well, not a big deal, thanks!!
