I had a square foot area of a deep scratch from my vehicle being hit. It seemed there was layer after layer of paint. After rubbing compound and elbow grease I decided to pull out my buffer. For those of you who have a deep ugly scratch.. a small orbital and Meguiar's medium cut compound works wonders.

I've got a scratch that has been bugging me.
