Default deep frying oil in a mercedes

Mythbusters put french fry oil in a mercedes diesel car and ran it ,unaltered averaged 30 mpg verses 33 on diesel fuel. They claimed you can get the stuff for free but how long is that going to last? When you pull up to the window, order your food and 5 gallons of old fench fry oil. They did filter it first. Myth confirmed.

Its pretty much common knowledge that Diesels can be made to be run on vegtable oil. If you look around, there are websites that sell kits to convert to diesel fuel. I don't think McDonald's will give you any oil since they recycle the oil. You do have to filter the oil and add some chemicals before you can use it. I think it costs .70c/gallon + oil.

I would guess the same or maybe a little worse. The inside of a deisel engine is pretty much bullet proof since deisel combustion is very violent. There are quite a few people using oil as fuel in a deisel. Another plus is the average 30mpg on a deisel engine and the fact that they run forever, its not uncommon to see a diesel truck with 1 million miles.

The only thing about it is that you have to change the fuel filter more often.

THEY didn't have to drive it every day. They simply wanted to test it, so they poured some oil into the gas tank and saw how it ran. If you actually want run bio-diesel you have to add the chemicals, change the gas tank and such, i've also heard you have to start the car with diesel and then switch over to the oil.

I'm actually planning on buying an old diesel mercedes and converting it to veggie oil this fall. It's pretty easy to do - you pretty much just need to add another fuel delivery system. Vegetable oil is NOT the same as bio diesel. Bio diesel burns cleaner, but if you want to make it, you need a bit of knowledge in chemistry. With veggie oil - all you need to do is filter it, prior to using it.
