So earlier today I just installed my new Hamotorsports P28 ecu to my 96 civic ex using a cheap jumper i bought. It started up great and ran just fine until i tested it on an open road everytime I hit 5k+ Rpm and shift into 2nd the check engine light comes on, and when I restart the car the check engine light is off and then repeats the process.


I have never tampered with ECU s before and I was just wandering if this is normal please help

 

If its a modified ECU, the CEL has likely been modified to be a shift light.

You rev high, shift to the next gear, and it goes away? Only comes on at around 5K RPMs?

 

See thats what I thought at first to I was like "oh cool a shift light" then I let the clutch out and it didnt go away and I kept on shifting through the gears and it stayed on so I drove home turned off the car turned it back on no CEL then I drove it again and same thing. and yea it only happens after I hit about 5k+ then it turns on and wont go away.

Im thinking mabe its a malfunction what do you think??

 

i have a similar p28 but i havent tried mine as yet in my ej1, im waitin on a jumper harness that seems to be on back-order, but i nver had a problem with mine in the eg8
