cruise control
I want to put cruise in my car but I not sure what the best way to go about doing this is. I have a 92 civic DX so it's not build in but i would like to install it cause i do ALOT of driving... I would like it if it looked good installed... i had a after market modal onces and it looked dumb with the little box stuck on the dash. anyway and info would be nice.
To add-in cruise control should not be that difficult.. the problem is finding the parts for a reasonable price. If you could get your hands on a scrapyard Civic in your year range that has cruise, you would be laughing.
Usually the ECUs are not different between models with or without cruise. What you'll need is the cruise servo and cable ***'y, all associated mounting brackets, wiring and switches to match and perhaps even the steering wheel cover from the donor vehicle. The cruise on/off switch is usually on the dash (left of steering wheel) and the set/decel and resume/accel buttons are mounted on the wheel.
There would be a considerable amount of disassembly involved, but nothing beyond the scope of the home mechanic.
Everything _should_ be plug-n-play, provided the ECU remians constant. If you're lucky, the wiring may already be there too!
I've never done a conversion on one of these, but the technology is the same for all cruise systems.
One word of caution, always disconnect the SRS (airbag) system before toying with any airbag related component such as the steering wheel.
Hope this was somewhat helpful..
