Default ecu

hi there i am new 2 the site so hello i am need of some help i have a 1997 civic coupe which started life as a 1.6 non vtec (d16y7) but somebody has dropped a 1.6 vtec in it (d16z6) .the problem is they havnt changed the ecu so the vtec dosnt work and i think it is affecting the idle. i am wanting 2 know if the proper ecu (which i believe is the p28) will plug straight in or will i hav 2 change the wireing loom. thanks

welcome to the forum! I'm fairly certain the p28 ecu (you were right... the z6 has a p28 ecu) will plug right in.

If it still has the '97 (d16y7) engine harness in it, you'll need an OBD2a-OBD1 conversion harness. You'll also need to wire it for vtec.

if they switched the engine harness to the d16z6 harness, it'll plug right in

is there any way of finding outwhich wiring loom is in. i know that the vtec is not wiered up because the valve that comes out of the top left hand side of the block (which i believe is 4 the vtec) has no plug in it. but there r wires and plugs all over the engine bay with blanking caps on them so i ant got a clue what is 4 what thanks
