Default engine swap ecu ?'s

So heres what I have going on. I have a 2000 EX with a blown motor. I am doing a b16A2 swap out of a OBD1 car. I have OBD2B. I know that I need a harness adapter, but I also need to pass emissions. Will I be able to put an ECU from say a 2000 SI on my OBD1 motor with out issues or am I pretty well stuck with OBD1 Ecu to make the car run right? Since I will have all the OBD2 harness already in the car I figure I should just be able to unplug one ECU and plug in the other one. Has anybody else come across this problem? I hope I'm not ****ing myself with this. All I want is my baby back on the road(with a little more power though!!!).

if you keep the obd2 ecu, your ride will run like crap... convert to obd1, and use the one for the engine you have. (more than likely it will be a p30)

I will be running the OBD1 ecu for dailky driving but for emissions will I be able to swap in an OBD2 ECU so I will pass, I don't care if the motor runs like crap for a few hours as long as I can remain "street legal". That is my only concern. Will this work? or could I use the stock ECU on my d-series motor once the swap is done? Temporarily of course. I'm kinda nervous now that the time has come for emissions, I have already failed once and now need to go back.(once the car is running again of course!!)

im not sure it will be necessary to change the ecu for emissions..

What about when they plug there fancy code reader into my OBD2 port? Won't that screw something up? I read about that failing emissions in the top of this forum thread. And yes I do have the P30 ECU like you mentioned. Oh well. I suppose I'm just going to have top find out. Its a little late for me to get a different motor at this point. I already have one so I guess I'm kind of stuck. Crap I hope I can get through this stuff. I'm just sick of emission control crap. Why the heck can't you do a motor swap without worrying if you will ever be able to drive your car legally again. Oh well. Thanks for the help. If anyone else has info or has gone through this please let me know.[X(]

you will not havea fancy obd2 port... and i think what happens is that an obd2 ecu is a little tattle tale, and informs the tech that it has been altered.. but honestly, i dont know how the emissions thing works anymore, do they input car and their computer says it must be obd2, or whatever?? i just overpay (tip? hehehe) the guy and somehow they manage to make it pass...

WELL THE OBD2 PORT IS ALREADY IN THE CAR ITS A 2000 SO i'M KINDA HOPING THAT THE OLDER MOTOR WILL WORK ON THE NEWER ecu FOR A TEMP THING, IF NOT i GUESS THE WHOLE OVERPAY THING MAY HAVE TO(ack sorry bout the caps) Oh well. I'll let you all know when the time comes I suppose. Thanks

Dude your obd1 engine will run fine on a obd2 ecu other than one thing which will make you fail. The OBD2 ecu looks for a 2nd o2 sensor and you will not have one unless you go ahead and just make the car obd2 which sounds like your best bet

well the 2nd O2 in the cat is still present. I guess all that would need to be done is to adjust some wires or something then? Thats kinda what it sounds like to me. I'm new to the whole motor swap business which is why I'm so damn scared of doing it, even though I have no choice in the matter. Thank you though Marty. You sound like the most confident person about this subject so far. Well I guess I will still have to see what happens.
