fuel or spark? maybe even tuning? need help plz
I own a 2000 honda civic ex. i have upgraded the following...aem cold air intake, dc sport headers, greddy evo exhaust, aem adjustable cam gear with a 1 degree above stock stetting, and hks wires. the car has 125,000 miles on it now. the problem im having is after the car has warmed up the idle is very low. it will fluctuate 500 and below and almost shuts off but doesnt. but when im braking in stop and go traffic the idle drops more. even when the ac is on the idle still does the same. i have had the iacv replace do to it being clogged. could it be do the cam gear? but im also having problems in smooth accelerating. the car sometimes will putter and there may be a delay sometimes. i wanted to upgrade the fuel pump, fuel rail, and regulator...I may go with aem. also i wanted to upgrade my plugs, cap and rotor...maybe even get a msd igition setup to help with spark. am i on the right idea of fixing any of my problems that i am having with my car? any feed is greatly appreciated...thank you
are you planinng on boosting? You usually dont need an aftermarket fuel pump/rail/regulator unless your doing some serious mods(although they do look nice
), but your car maybe be idling due to the cam gear and timing adjustment. Also, have you messed with your spark plugs latley? They could be getting old, i know my car was idling really weird for a while cuz of old plugs. Also, the intake mainfld and throttle body have been known to mess up idle, but i dont see where you messed with those at all.

If all you have done so far is IHE, then all that fuel and timing stuff is really unneccesary. I would set everything back to stock specs, swap your plugs and wires for some OEM replacements, and see what that does
i replaced the plugs, cap and rotor about six months ago but i havent replace the hks wires in about 2 1/2 years which was around 30,000 miles ago. but i heard that hks wires dont need to be replace as often as stock wires. but i was looking at getting iridium spark plugs. but am i better off sticking with factory or iridiums as good as they say. i need to replace my timing belt again so im going have the cam gear put back to zero degrees and that should fix the timing i hope. with all the miles on my engine i dont want to put any more stress on it so i dont plan on boosting. but i heard that if i have a vacum leak that may affect my idleling. im going to replace all the hoses if i do find a leak. ill take your advice and hold off on the fuel upgrade. im going to do a seafoam treatment and see if that may help my fuel flow better. thanks again for the advice.
i got some ngk platium plugs waiting on delievery. but im going to replace my O2 sensor. the one before the cat. i was able to get an universal one from a local autoshop. does any body know the correct wiring setup to connect the universal to my existing wires from the factory. i know i have to cut and splice....Thanks.
jesus.. there is no reason to spend the extra money on "platinums" or anything of the sort. SPark plugs are like 7 dollars a set for the regulars, and thats all you'll ever need
