Map sensor probs
Just picked up a 95 ex Friday for $1,100. Reason it was so cheap is because the vtec was ripped out of it and they put god knows what regular 1.6 motor in it, bastards. Got it off a dealer and he doesnt know what they put in it. He told me its missing or needs a map sensor, dont remember which. My jaw dropped today when I started looking them up on what George W calls "The Google" and saw prices around the 300s. I'm baffled, because from what I'm reading around the web, these cars wont even run without a map sensor. Do all civics require one, like dx and lx's? I dont even know if this motor is out of a civic for that matter. What I do know is this motor has to stay in there till next tax return unless I hit a windfall, and I need to fix this situation cause its burnings so rich right now, a carburated v8 prbably gets better mileage.
I guess one possibility is, when they swapped the motor out before they traded it off, they did things ghetto and just bypassed it somehow and its running open loop. I had the same problem with my 240 when I bought it with a jimmy rigged cone filter itake and had to buy a ait sensor and plum it in between the maf and the filter. Where is the map located, anyway, in the airbox? It looks like it has a header on it and a fairly new o2 sensor so I'm rulling that out atm.

RE: Map sensor probs
the MAP sensor detects atomospheric pressure....all motors have them...and if its 1.6l, its from a civic. im not sure if it would run or not without one...alsoi know for a fact its not on the intake. im not sure where exactly it is..but im sure some one else can help you with that. any civic motor will fit in any civic...and all wires would plug in perfect except for the vtec plug....but that wont matter....also by civic i mean 96-00 and the gen before it i think its 91-95? or something close...all of those motors will fit. take a pic. of the motor and we can tell you what it is....

well...i cant tell you exactly where the map sensor is (i dont even know what it looks like) but can you read the numbers and letters on the metal chunk the the left of the far left cylendar? thats one way of telling what motor it is...i cant really read it. also on the right side or top of the timing belt cover, it should say it again. but i can tell you that it is originally from a civic.

RE: Map sensor probs
Confirmed, D15. God that sux. Why would anyone commit such a travesty? Really cut the b@lls of this car. I sourced the sensor through autozone, they want 72.99 and they gotta order it. I think I might just clean up the body on this thing and flip it. No hope for performance here. If I wanted to swap a motor I'd have saved my money and spent it on rebuilding the "truck motor" in my 240. Just pondering the possibilities, but what will bolt up to this tranny if I do decide on swapping? I think I heard Integra motors will bolt up, but Accord and Prelude vtecs (H22?) would require transmission with swap.
