Motor swap/ECU wire harness question
Okay so I have searched the site and have not come up with a definete answer regarding this:
I swapped the factory D15Z1 VTEC motor out of my 94 VX hatch, for a D15B7...not sure what it came out of, I believe a DX, (does that matter?)
I purchased a D15B7 ECU to replace the D15Z1 (vtec) ECU.
Will I need to replace the wire harness in the car for it to be "right" or will Ijust plug and play? I know alot of people are ADDING vtec to their cars by just running the new wires...so in essence if I am thinking clearly, then I wouldnt have toswap the harness....but you guysare the pro's....
Tell me what you think.

well you cant add VTEC by just re-wiring the ECU, you need a VTEC head and whatnot. But anyway with your situation, i beleive both the ECUs are OBD1 (Before 1996), so you will not need a harness. If you were to swap the ECU to an OBD2 (96 and up), you would need a conversion harness, but you wont since your staying OBD1. Its just plug and play from there since the ECU is made just for your engine.
Thanks Flip, I figured that was the case...but I wanted to make sure...The vtec ECU is throwing a CEL for the vtec solenoid right now...obviously because it cannot find it...unfortunately it puts into "limp mode" thus killing any gas mileage/performance.
yeah you need to get the new ECU in there ASAP, thats proabbly killin your gas milage. It should just be plug and play though. Get under the dash, pull the old one and and plug the new one in. Good luck
Do you already have the non-VTEC ECU?

Yes it is a SOHC non vtec...
I got it because when the original motor bit the dust I needed a motor to replace it immedietly.I chose the 15 because it was virtually a simple swap. Nothing major, just drop it in...I was back on the road in 2 days. Besides, I still have everything I need to re-install the turbo setup...and a lower compression motor is better for boosting anyways.
Also...gas mileage is an issue....or rather it was...I used to work about an hour and a half from my house...now I am just a few blocks from work...
Hmmm...my neighbor has an H22 sitting on an engine stand...lol

lol i have a d15b7 also, these things need power!!!, i was thinking about doing a swap but its a lot of time and $$ which i do not have, so i was thinking about doing s mini-me head swap, but the h22 is a power motor, steal that and drop that in ur civic !!!!
Yea...well you can do alot to these little motors to make em move...When the other motor went out...I took the turbo off, it was burning oil pretty bad. However when I bought the car and everything was working good...that little bastard would move.
And my neighbor is putting that H22 in a rock buggy...

yeah i was kinda wondering why you would swap in a non-VTEC for your VTEC, but thats understandable.
You should get in your car and get that new ECU in there ASAP. You know how to swap them right?
