Default Question about 95 ex fuel guage..

My stepdad picked up a 95 ex to commute in, about a week ago. I drove it home for him..and when I did..I noticed that the fuel guage moves around like crazy. I know fuel guages move somewhat..but this one was extreme. It went anywhere between under 1/4 tank to full. Does that happen a lot with this generation..and what could it be? The fuel sensor...?
Thanks!

when i drove it..it didnt move so much on a hard acceleration..it did when i turned though. Sometimes it moved just while i was driving too. I just talked to him and he said it didnt seem to be moving a lot..but i dunno if he knew exactly wat i was talking about. Ill check it out again. Its probably just the sensor huh?

Mine moves too, but not like half a tank. I dont know if driving the car hard would have anything to do with it.

Mine's all over the place on twistier roads, but doesn't move more than a half tank or so. Other than that, I'm useless on this thread

almost hondas fro the year 95 and below have mechanical fuel guages. It is a little bobber sitting inside the gas tank with a string attached to it. it detects the heights of the string at any given moment. and then corresponds it to the fuel tach on the instrument oanel. This causes it to move alost b/c believe it or not gas sloshes not matter how carefukl or slow you driv. have you ever tried to runwith a cup of water in your hand. smae thing here. Its perfectly normal. you should see the guage on my shelby

Mine doesn't do that...no matter how hard I drive...although it annoys me when it seems like I have more gas in the morning than I actually have...(return fuel)

Return line? What's returning gas?

(sorry, don't know cars quite as inside and out like you guys)

When you turn off your car there's still fuel pressure in the system (extra gas which fuel gauge doesn't read), that drains back into the tank over a period of time and when you go to start your car again, the gauge will go a bit higher...so I leave for work thinking that I've got enough. But that gauge drops in a few minutes because that gas wan't supposed to be in the tank
