do you plan on getting the car tuned after you get a new ecu/chipped ecu?

Yup, '97 would have an OBD-II system. Honestly, you won't need a tune or anything for i/h/e; when you run nitrous, forced induction, a nice big cam, etc... that's when you need a tune. With i/h/e, you won't be pushing so much air through the engine that the stock computer can't compensate, so there's no real point in tuning.

well if you really want to take advantage of the i/h/e then a tune is the way to go, but it is expensive and not really worth the hp

^yea, if you want to squeeze more out of an I/H/E setup, a tune is the way to go. However, for less than a tune you can get a chipped ECU and OBD2-OBD1 ECU conversion harness from Phearable and it'll help you take advantage of the I/H/E, just not as good as a real tune would.

BUT, I just realized you live in CA so as far as tuning goes you are pretty much screwed.

Agreed. Only after I/H/E though. Having only an intake or whatever, youll most likely lose power through where the reflash takes effect. Atleast for my car its that way...dunno about '97s...I assume its similar
