RE: crx engine swap

RE: crx engine swap
get a d16 in there and yoou will be right where u want to be with just i/h/e
RE: crx engine swap
you have alot of options D16 D15b B16 B18a/b B18c1/5 b20....cheap 145 enginehorsepower is B18a....sohc is cheaper but im partial to the dohc
RE: crx engine swap
awesome thanks a lot, cheap is what im doin for, like i said vtec preferably, and all of these will go in there with out any major modifications, like transmission matches up and ecus and everything? now all i have to do is hit up ebay see what i can find ahha, ill keep it posted how im doin...

RE: crx engine swap
also, does it matter what year modle the engine is...
RE: crx engine swap
You shold look for an OBD 0 Engine not OBD 1 with OBD1 you have to do some electrical work (I think Someone correct me if Im wrong)
RE: crx engine swap
well if you go d16 its going to be at least obd1 and you will need to get a conversion harness(correct me if im wrong), or you can do it yourself(if you can follow instructions well they have guides online) and youll need to wire up the vtec since you dont have it on your car originally, but you should be able to use your stocks axles, mounts, tranny if you get a d series. another option you can do is get a b16a1 obdo(160 hp stock dohc) but u still have to connect vtec wiring and get new mounts, axles, linkage, and a few odds and ends. im leaning towards the b16 right now unless i can find a cheap d16.

RE: crx engine swap
sweet, ill definately look into that, but what bout the year models and other stuff liek that, like what if it isnt a 89 or it doesnt say crx on it, cause a lot im seeing only say lik 99 and up civic or 95 up civic...does that make a difference, as u can probably tell, this is my first civic, hell everything else iv had is a ford sooo, yea thanks
RE: crx engine swap
like right now im lookin at a d15b vtec for civic 92-95 si.....is there a reason y that wouldnt work
RE: crx engine swap
it would but you would need to rewire(and i think it has a hydro tranny) to put it bluntly, you can put almost any honda engine in your car, lol. you just gotta find the best priced and how much work you want to put into it. id reccomend and d15, d16 for your situation. the d15(jdm) is a good route to go, they can squeeze alot of power out of this one.(years just mean that you might have to wire something differently and it might have a hydraulic tranny instead of your cable style tranny(i hear they r pains to switch but i may be wrong)
RE: crx engine swap
well im not lookin to redo my tranny, cause im not doin this myself, im buyin a engine and takin it to a friend to do but, how do i know or find out what tranny i have, shes a 5 speed
RE: crx engine swap
if it came with a d series engine, then you need another d series engine(d15b in my opinion) to mate the 2. it should just bolt up to the new engine
RE: crx engine swap
Ditto if you want to keep your tranny get a jdm d15b...cheap and some more pep
RE: crx engine swap
awesome thanks a lot
RE: crx engine swap
How much money do you have to spend because there is a killer deal at this website http://www.streetimports.com/product_details.asp?id=949
RE: crx engine swap
thanks but...im lookin like 600 or 700 dollars not installed....haha
RE: crx engine swap
im interested in that actually, lol
RE: crx engine swap
blah vtec is overated for sohc's. and for your price range i would look into finding an 88-91 civic si/ex, crx si d16a6 engine. its a great platform to start with on the cheap. and all your old stuff will bolt right on to the engine including your distributor, intake mani, exh mani.
