Default Anybody ever swap a D15 for B16A2 ???

The swap is my little D15@102hp for a VTEC B16A2@168hp...

I need as many details as possible for this swap. I'll throw out a few questions off the top of my head, but feel free to add any other info.

-Will I need new mounts or can I use the existing ones?

-Are engine components compatible between the 2 engines? Like powersteering pump or A/C compressor?

-Will I definitely get a check engine light with this swap?

-What does the average shop charge for a swap?

-If an engine and trans are sold together, is the clutch included?

Any info would be great.

Wow you need to do some more research on engines. That being said....

You will need new mounts, axles, ECU, and everything from the B motor. You wont get a check engine light cuz your new computer will be for the B16A2 engine. The clutch is part of the swap if you get the engine and tranny together. The average swap cost will run you between 3 and 4000.

To add to the above, you'll need shift linkages as well. And as for the clutch, if the whole engine is out of the car. You may as well change all those things that are a pain in the @ss to change after it is in....clutch, timing belt, water pump, all that kinda thing.

Good luck!

This is research. And I did scrounge up some info from other sites, but what seems like stupid or simple questions simply weren't being answered in the info I found.

The average swap cost will run you between 3 and 4000.
For the labor??? Or are you including the engine/trans price in there? I'm sure it's the latter, but you can never be too sure.

Thanks for the info, Berz. Feel free to add anything else that comes to mind.[sm=icon_rock.gif]

UMMm B16 = B motor.... D15 = D motor... not compatible. B16 the 16 means 1.6 liters D15 the 15 means 1.5 liters again not compatible. The only heads that will swap are for the D16 motors and the B motors to themselves.

D16 can have any of the other D16 heads... A6 Z6 Y7 Y8 The A6 and Y7 are non Vtec
B16 can have any of the other B heads B16 B18a,b,c B20 The B18A,B and the B20 are non Vtec.

You will not have to change the power steering rack but IMO I would take the power steering out... More power.

Berz out.

I understand where you're coming from about more power. It may sound strange, but I'm willing to sacrifice a little power for comfort. However, a D15b7 doesn't have power to spare...hence the engine swap. I have power steering components waiting to be installed. It's amazing the limitations money (or lack thereof) puts on a car owner.

you dont need power steering anyways...ive had it for a while now. you get used to it. Its only "semi" hard when your going kinda slow and your tire pressure is a little low. but when your going speed limit wise its fine.
