Default F-d Up or decent start? B18 hybrid start

Im pretty new to engine swaps but I have heard alot about the popular b18 hybrid swap for my 92 civichatch. I am in no rush but i wanted to get started and began searching for anaked short block since I have turbo applications in mind, and would just have to buy new pistions anyway. recently I came upon a naked b18c1 short block for $300 bucks and got it. The problem is that the buy is over the net (which always caries an amount of risk). My friend tells me that 300 for a naked block is way too much, and that in the long run i will spend more than just sving and buying a complete block and simply swap out the parts I dont want.

I just wanted to get the opinion from the more experienced community. should i keep going on the route I have started? Or just junk the block and wait till I can get the cash for the whole thing?

Also any resources you guys may be familiar with as far as building a turboed hybrid(frankenstein) b18 would be appreciated.
