Default New Motor!

Gunna start looking into a new engine, I'm new as hell to whats under the hood, I'm more of a body man so bare with me..

I've currently got the d15b7 in my eg, and I can't handle how slow it is.

I found a deal on a LS engine for $800, comes with everything I need except for an ecu and starter..

same guy is also selling a FULL z6 swap with "everything I need" he's offering to throw in strut bars and **** too..

anyway, I'm away that if I put a dohc vtec head on the ls block it'll have vtec, however, I've heard that ls/vtec engines aren't reliable for ****. I guess the head doesn't have the flow it needs? or is this just when it's turbo'd? I'd love to have vtec, but I'm afraid that the z6 just won't push enough power I guess..

Any insight? I'm not limited to these engines, but they just happened to pop up

An LSV is somewhat reliable; the problem comes when people pretend they have an actual B18C1 and rev the crap out of the B18B short-block. The B18B isn't designed for as high of engine speeds as the B18C. The B18C head should actually out-flow the B18B head.

But for $800 I wouldn't pass up an LS swap; ECUs can be had on eBay pretty cheap, and starters aren't extremely expensive either. If you want something cheaper and don't need the extra torque, the Z6 should suit your needs just fine... you'll get more potential out of the DOHC, but there's always that traction threshold for a lightweight FF car, and you can make enough power on a Z6 to have traction problems; personally, I wouldn't want a FF car making over 250whp if it's a street car.

not sure about the z6, but there's 85k on the ls..

how would it be beneficial to just get a b18c or b20 even instead of going ls/v?
