Swap or Rebuild???

Swap or Rebuild???
I have a 92 Civic SI Hatchback with 150,000 miles. In the spring time I’m planning on putting about 1,500 to make it faster. The guy I bought it from said we could do a b18b1 motor with a GS-R transmission for 1,300 installed. I want a quick car, something that could beat LS Integra’s easily. I’m not sure if that’s possible with my D series and 1,500 dollars. The motor is in great condition. I’m the second owner and I just got the car. The only thing that stops me from getting the LS motor is problems with the swap that would come after it. I don’t want to have to keep putting money into the swap to fix problems, Do you guys think fixing up the D series would have less problems? I took a ride in an EK Hatch with a GS-R motor in it, man that thing was fast. Is having like kind of close to that speed possible in my situation? I feel like I would need to do a swap for that, but I really like the motor I have. What do you guys think I should do?
Thanks in advance

RE: Swap or Rebuild???
There are alot of guys on here that love the D series. You have an SI so your prolly already have VTEC. How good are you at working at cars? I think you could piece together a turbo for 1500, but your engine does have 150,000 miles on which is alot. If i had that car and didn't wanna do a swap, i would pull the motor and rebuild it. That in it self will run u about 1500 in parts and such. You won't really see any power right away, unless you go all motor. But you will be set for some really good gains down the road. You could go all motor, which will give you power as soon as the motor is put togehter and installed. But building the car for boost might give you more horsepower in the long run, but less power in the short run.

Pistons and rods generally run about $400 for a set, so thats gonna be $800 for pistons and rods, and rings are about $200. Doing the work yourself is key, because labor might run you another 500-1000. Also, your gonna have to look at the valve train as well. A good port and polish, new cams, valves, retainers, and springs will give you some good gains as weel. But again, thats gonna cost you money as well.

I dunno as i have never built a motor before. But port and polish i've seen prices like 1k for a really good p&p. But that comes with a 4 angle valve job. Someone also posted that a p&p can be done for $400. And i've heard lots of good stuff about Skunk2 as a company for parts. I would say Toda, but they only make parts for the B and K series. Look around on the net for brands you have heard of.

you could spend your 1500 and put a stock b series in and make it work, it will be faster than stock, but not fast.
put 1500 towards a turbo for your sohc vtec and it will be faster than a stock b series and much easier to do
(but a b series has more capability than a d sereis if you go all out in a build up)
