Default B16 VS. LS

I have a 1997 honda civic dx hatchback and i was wondering which engine would be quicker just swapped, in which would be more reliable, respond better to bolt ons, and be easest for a first time engine swapper to do himself. and does VTEC really matter that much. Thanx

Yes Vtec matters. As for the swap they are both B motors so they will be the same to swap. The LS will be nowhere near the same as a B16A but if you plan to boost then the B18B is a great motor for that. If your gonna stay NA and dont want to do more work down the road go with the B16 If you like to tinker then go with the B18B and then put a Vtec head on it down the road for a killer motor that will pwn most other Honda engines. It will be cheaper to go with the B18B as well so keep that in mind.

Good luck.

Berz out.

yeah, VTEC gives you a huge advantage over non-VTEC motors... the b18 is nice with boost, but the CR makes it a bit tricky.

If you are looking for "*****" then go with the b18 it will give you a better baseline and more potential. If you just want a quick car that isnt too difficult to mod then the b16 will do.

You mean the B16, right?

But yeah, what they said. B18 will be easier (slightly), cheaper, a bit torquier, and better for boost. B16 would be a better choice if you want to stay NA.

sorry to but in.....but i was debating between the two myself and was wondering about how much they run including installation? really need to get some more power under the hood and i've been told that b16 or 18 would be a nice start.

Part#: B18B LS / RS, 145 HP - US $ 599

Part#: B16A 2nd 92-95, 170 HP - US $ 1749

Damn, that's cheaper than a D series.

for some reason that doesn't sound right...is that including a full working motor or just parts? and how much would a H22 go for?

surprisingly h22's aren't that expensive, but considering the amount of work it is and the cost of a swap kit it is better to drop in a b series because they are easily able to make just as much power and save yourself on swapping in that big *** engine, and an h22 also makes it harder to do regular maintenance because it takes up all the room.

but even after all that i still want a h22 in my hatch
