b16a2 motor swap
I have a 1996 honda civic ex and I was looking into doing a b16a2 motor swap. How hard is this swap and what exactly will I need? If I get a JDM one with motor, tranny, ecu and harness, do I need anything else?
you shouldnt need motor mounts but it would be a good idea but you will need shift linkage because a d-series shift linkage wont mount up to b-series tranny and you will need axles(they usually come with the swap) but one thing everyone always says is to put a b16 in a 96-98 civic you need the rear motor mount and you dont. i did the swap in mine and i didnt need to buy any different mounts it was just drop in and go. it only took one day and i love the results.
I have a 1996 HX. Would I need the rear mount? How about an ECU and A/C support bracket? I have been reviewing other posts and they indicate I will need all of these mods. I can understand the ECU since I have the whole five-wire primary O2 sensor thing going on there. Would it be as simple as snipping one of the wires and forgetting about it?

no you dont need the rear mount i know all the swap sites say you do and i dont know why. as far as the wiring, i got a full ex harness and used that because it will run the motor fine and is a lot easier than tring to find the right wires to snip and which one to splice into and all that crap.
my swap costed me $2500 for everything that i needed and it only took one day, but i had a friend helping me who has his own shop so it was a lot easier with him the usual swap should take about a 1 1/2 days at the most just s few tips...the night before you do the swap(if you are doing it in your drive way) jack up the car and take the wheels off, drain the oil, tranny fluid, pull the axles off, take off the intake, disconnect the battery, and unplug the ECU. Bascially get all the small stuff out of the way and it will save a ton of time the next day.
and do a clutch, timing belt, and water pump before you install the motor. and there is no better time for a lightened flywheel. oh yeah, and with the t-belt, do a new tensioner pulley and maybe an idler pulley. it will save you some headaches down the road. all that labor will be less than an hour with the motor on the ground, and could be 2 days with it in the car. and if the t-belt breaks, it could toast the motor.(well, bend some valves anyway.)
