Default Civic Engine got blown! Want to replace with more powerful engine!

Hi All,

I Hope this is the correct forum to post this!
I have a 99 Civic Special Edition (which is basically a base model with A/C), and my engine just got blown. I'm looking for a replacement engine, but since I'm paying money to replace an engine, might as well pay a little extra and get a more powerful engine!

However, I know that putting in a different engine will require a lot of work and modifications (translation: labour costs), I was told I had to change the Power Steering, A/C, Transmission, and maybe even the Engine bay.

My question is, what is the best Engine to fit in my car, with the least amount of trouble??? (or is it just not worth it, and I should just replace it with the same engine?)

I believe my car has a D16Y7 engine

Thank you in advance for your help

F' the y7, lol... it all comes down to what is your budget? you can get an F20B for about $2500 for the swap, then you would have misc parts for it. like axles and shifter linkage (if you have a 5spd) but the engine puts out about 200hp and 148tq. IMO it is the best bang for the buck. people are going to say B16's, B18's, H22's, K20's, K24's... and once again it is all a matter of $$$.

on the other hand there is the D15B, which has 130hp and 102tq and you can get the whole swap for about $700 and i think you can use the same shifter linkage. you may also be able to locate a D16Y8(ex vtec engine) for a good price and it should be a direct drop in.

so how much you thnking on spending? either way any of the above listed

Thanks for your reply Fiirkan.
I think the D15B sounds good .. 24 HP gain for $700 not too bad. So far this sounds the best to me!
I looked at the F20B but it is way over my budget.
I'm looking for something that is within $1000 - $1500 including labour and parts, not because I'm cheap, because that's all I got!! lol .. I originally just wanted to get the car back on the road, but now I'm thinking why not upgrade since I'm throwing money away anyways!
How much of a gain will I get from D16Y8 since it is a direct drop in?
Someone told me about the F22B engine and that looks good too .. 160 HP!
What do you think of the F22B? Is that an easy swap(inexpensive swap) or is he talking out of his pooper?

if you are gonna swap an engine that has 160hp then get a B16. but if i recall correctly the Y8 has about the same if not a little more then the D15B so if you can find on in your area for cheep just get that.

The only F series engine that i would bother with would be the F20B.

I think I'm starting to understand this alot more clearly!
So you are saying that a B16 (B-series?) engine is a good swap?? From the specs looks like the best one for my car is the B16A2.. would it cost about the same (labour and parts-wise excluding the engine cost) as say .. the D15B or D16Y8 swap?
Thanks for all your help

HHHEEEELLLLLLLLZZZZ NOOOO lol! nah man the B16 would probably be more then the F20B just for just the swap lol. then there is parts and then labour. and it would be more for the swap then it would to be to install the D15B or D16y8 fully installed.

Glad to have helped. i think you will have fun with the D15B. Marty had a boosted one in his old EK sedan and was running real good numbers(mid 14's IIRC)
