Default D16Y8 to B18B1 worth it?

Ok guys couple questions:

Currently, I have a D16Y8 in my car(00 civic EX) with an auto trans. Comes stock at 127hp/109tq

I looked online for I/H/E and Intake Manifold and i believe brand new the cost was around $1300 or so for Skunk2 parts and an Injen CAI.

Now, With those parts i figured itd put me up around 140 or so HP. Then i found another sweetums.

Its not the one id LIKE(thatd be a k20 or a b18c5), but i found a B18B1 complete with 5spd tranny/ecu/harness/pedals - basically everything id need to make this engine run, for $1200.00 These come with 142hp/127tq stock.

Now i can swap the motor myself. Thats absolutely no problem. What im wondering is if this would be worth it? The engine has 150k on it according to the gentleman id be buying it from. Its out of a 95 teggy.

The D16 has 9.6:1 compression
The B18 has 9.2:1 comression.

I plan on buying a turbo in the next year, so the lower compression ratio would be nice. I have a 55 shot nitrous on the d16, so that would be setup for the b18 once i buy it.

Now my questions;
What kind of stuff should i look for when deciding to purchase it?
Any opinions as to whether or not i should go with the swap?

Its in a t-boned car so the front is ok. Should i crack open the valve cover and check to see the color of the valves/springs and oil etc?

These guys will know better than me, but i'd stick something with more aftermarket Support, this is a guess but it seems like thers lots of B16's and B18c1's Have you looked into all possibilities? I mean you could get a Cheaper B16 with around 160 hp for around 2k I think. Or H22 with 200hp but thats more expensive

I just noticed the topic in the forum says: "if its about your civic it doesnt go here" so this is my bad. Can someone please move it if it needs to be?

The H22A has 10.6:1 ratio. Im not too sure but i know the higher the compression, the more you need to do internally. Im not sure running nitrous on a stock bottom end from a motor with that kind of compression would be too good.

If you're going to do turbo get the B18 instead of I/H/E that you won't be able to use after the turbo (I/H at least.) The added displacement will be nice under boost as well.

Honestly, I would leave the current engine stock. Buy a D16Z6 and start saving money. Tuner toys rods are like 200$, get some SRP Pistons, Commetic Headgasket and ARP Headstuds. Boost that and you will outrun any B series with average bolt ons. Ive had a D16Z6 @10PSI on a Greddy 19T kit, and now ive got a JDM Gsr swap..........the boosted D was a lot more fun to drive because of the Tq.........and I was nowhere near the whp a D series with a built bottom end can see. Buy a D, build it and boost.

in another section, right after you did the swap, didn't you say the gsr was more fun to drive?

i also have a 00 civic EX auto that i did a swap on....i looked at several different options....even bought a B18B non-vtec out of a integra but got talked out of it....ended up going with a B16A2 from japan and swapped in a 5spd. the whole thing...5spd, ECU, and motor was only $2400. if you are going to turbo right away i guess the b18b isnt a bad idea......but in my opinion a b16 is the best option......oh and to the kid that said to build a D series....are you nutz?? those motors are weak....it takes more money to make one any good than it does to buy a b-series...and even then there is a good possiblity of it breaking down....i know cause my D16y8 has 3 holes in it the size of my fist!!
