Well if you mean by the JDM SOHC VTEC the D15B then that has ~130hp. the B18B has ~140hp and yo can do a ls/vtec conversion on that and get pretty good power. in the end it all comes down to $$$

well you could probably get the B18B motor for cheeper. but you would require more for it like motor mounts, Tranny(where you could reuse the tranny you have with the D15B) shifter linkage, ECU, Axles. now you need some of those for the D15B but all in all it might even be even for pricing, but i think the D15B would turn out cheeper. Now don't quote me on that, the more experienced modders on here would have more info, but either way, if you are gonna swap the motor at all... Reasearch is your friend

if you think your d16 sucks as in its slow, then dont get another sohc engine.

+1 the sohc sucks!but very reliable!!look to turbo or sc....if not your going to have to do a swap unless you want to do some more stuff besides bolt ons

My advice is to swap in a b16a2. Its built for vtec power unlike the B18b. But If you wanna turbo down the road go with the b18b. I got a quote from an auto shop inthe areafor the total cost of a complete swap for the b16 vs. the b18. B16is 3200, and the b18 is 3400. Prices vary, so search and get quotes from shops.

Just boost the y8. Sure it'ssohc but for cheaper than a b16 with a swap you can piece together a custom turbo setup and make more horsepower/torque and still have a reliable car if you get a good tune.I was considering the b16 butall of that money for 170 hp and 111 lbs torque, no way. Go for the boost.

By the way you're not going to want to swap for a jdm d15b because it's not going to feel any better than the y8. It's either boost or dohc. I say boost.

+1 on the boost. cheaper and cooler! just not much more room for improvement after that unless you want to start buying a cam, cam gears and all that stuff. idk i would like to boost down the road. but thats my two cents.

Well if he boosts the y8 on stock internals then there is a ton of room for improvement. Once he upgrades the internals a bit, let the good times roll.
