1997 Civic DX Coupe - Needs a swap.

which of the engines do I have? and which is the ideal engine I'd want to swap it with (the best swap possible, the most powerful engine).. and which is the most economical engine swap (most bang for my buck) I could do? What would I be looking to pay for each? I have plenty of mechanics in the family willing to do it for free.

b18c swap

x1mpr0x 09-05-2009 03:49 AM

what is the name of the engine I have in now? D15Y7, right? B18C is out of a 95-97 Acura Integra SiR right? Is that the best upgrade, or most economical?

94civichatchback 09-05-2009 06:16 AM

you have a d16y7 you can look on your block. just to the left of your exhaust manifold. next to where the trans meets the block. the b18c is the best power
for the best bang for the buck i suggest a d16z6 its a good vtec engine from the 92-95 civic ex/si
for economical as for best gas milage a d15z1 is from a 92-95 civic vx and is also vtec but not as powerful as the above engines.

wow 1,750$ shipped for the B18c :O

600$ shipped for the d16z6.. what's the horsepower difference between the 2?

I can afford the D16z6 with some money to spare, is there anything a little better than that one? Maybe the vtec engine in the 96+ EX's??

Also the H22 is better than the b18c, isn't it? more hp and what not..

rc2904 09-06-2009 10:44 AM

If you want cheap put another D series head/intake manifold on your engine. Look up minime swap. Your basically gonna make your car comparable to a stock civic EX.

If you want a bit more power than that (and your willing to spend to get it) then do a B16 or B18 swap. For a b series swap you need the engine, transmission, axles, mounts, etc.

What is your goal or budget and are you planning on naturally aspirated or turbo?

94civichatchback 09-06-2009 12:19 PM

the d16z6 is the best sohc(also will bolt right up with nothing special needed) then just get a p28 ecu and wire vtec to it.. the b18c is better than the h22/h23

x1mpr0x 09-07-2009 10:39 PM

I dont think an engine swap is in my price range.. the prices I was giving was the engine alone, without transmission, mounts, axles. My goal is to beat an Infiniti G35 Coupe.. It runs a quarter mile in 14 seconds I believe.. so a 13-13.5second civic, is that possible without a swap? I hope so..
