anything I can do to my '91 dx hatch
 

I really have nothing for it: CAI, exhaust, tower struts, carbon fiber hood (got it for cheap). my Q is there anything I can do to the stock engine to make it quicker or is it not worth the time. I should just drop an engine?

yup motor swap is your best bet because the d15b motor you is not much of a monster compared to other motors for that car out there. get a b16 swap its a b-series motor 160 hp v-tec and it fits in your car with after market mounts and the other requirements for the swap

Because Cinderella's foot just fits better with the b16.

Actually a B16 and B18 will have about the same footprint... but you'll pay out the ass for a B16 swap into a 4G (think $2,500+ unless you're doing it yourself). I'd look into a DOHC ZC... they're way underestimated by most people, they're cheap, and they bolt right in.

well the DOHC uses a different tranny doesnt it?

No. It can use any 4G tranny (base, DX, HX, LX, Si, etc). It has its own original one, but it's just an Si tranny with closer ratios. The ZC trannies are usually the best choice for speed, but you can still use whatever you have.

yup indeed the zc is a good motor but your missing the facts of the whole b16!!! its V-TEC!!! and ITS 160hp and has more after market parts. the zc is a good motor dont get me wrong i had one and my friend has one in his civic. but theres times where he wishes he has v-tec the only thing you can really do to the zc is upgrading the ecu or chipping it getting piston and the head worked a lil and theres always boost but you can get a b16 and get a v-tec controller bore the block to a 1.8l and put some type r pistons.

If you want VTEC so badly, get a SOHC VTEC ZC motor... it's still a drop in (other than the VTEC wiring), and has almost as much power as the DOHC. But as for building them, there's tons of aftermarket for ZC's as well, and they usually cost less than 1/3 of a B16 swap.

alright so the ZC is what I should go with? will my tranny work?
