Default b18b???

this might have been posted be4 if so sorry...

I'm pretty darn sure I'm going to be getting a 5th gen ex or si sometime this spring and I'm just trying to get a whole plan figured out, its going to be a daily driver (too from school/job) and I wont have money flowing out my pockets to spend on it, what I wanted to know was if the b18b out of a 94-97 teg would be a good swap for the stock d16. I know I'll mod the I/H/E once I get it just wondering if this will give me a nice gain over the stock setup.

If I swap in a b18b thats non vtec will I run into problems in wiring it into a ex/si (Ex and Si came with sohc vtecs correct?)

yeh its a good motor no doubt but your gonna need some **** for the swap so you gonna be eating your wallet. like getting the motor mounts getting the axles and etc. i suggest for your daily driven habit i'll stay with the d16z6 motor. 1st the motor well save you on gas, 2nd its pretty good for a sohc v-tec, 3rd save time and money just put lil mods and you'll be running just as good as a b18b just with out the torque. so stay with the sohc but if you want the b18b and dont mind spending money then its a good idea.

the B18b is a great motor for daily driving, but like he said, the d16z6 is a great motor too. and it has plenty of potential. if you plan on doing the b18 though, the wiring is no big deal, the vtec wires just dont go anywhere. and expect to pay an extra $1000 above and beyond the price of the swap "kit" on extra stuff. you MIGHT not spend it all, but have at least that much handy in case you need it. you should replace the timing belt, the water pump, the clutch and the flywheel (if you want a performance one) while its out of the car. and you might need a new radiator or alternator suddenly.

well ill have some money to burn so would going FI on the z6 be cheaper than swapping to the b18b? ill have around 3-4k to spend on a swap or turbo, i just figured the swap would have less to do than going with FI.

the FI will have you quicker right off then the b18 swap...it will cost about the same..maybe a little more but it will be more fun..think about it like this...the car ur gettin already has the z6..get a turbo kit..maybe 2500 -3000 in that range...put that on run 6, 7, 8,around there lbs of boost and you will be having plenty of fun with your daily driver...if you go with the b18..its gunna cost you prolly when ur done ust putting the stock motor and stuff in around like 2000 at the least..probably more...and then you will want to do stuff to be quicker once u get it...id boost the sohc vtec..much fun...

yeah, boost it. unless youre going to get serious with racing, a sohc vtec with a turbo is perfect.
