Default Changing spark plugs and timing belts easy?

I have a 94 Civic DX manual transmission and I'm gettin ready to go on a cross country trip so I'm trying to prepare. Just looking for some info on what I should be looking into. I want to replace my belts as well as replace the spark plugs. Is this something I would be able to do myself? I'm not very mechanially inclined but Pep Boys wants $8 for the plugs and $50 for installation. Also I'm looking at new tires... pep boys brand futura 2000 LTE.... any advice is appreciated.

sounds like a timing belt would be a little hard for you from what you are saying, the spark plugs are pretty easy to pop out and pol in the new ones but becarful because the cylinder head is aluminum and you can strip the threads really easy then you can say good by to your cross country trip until you get it fixed. maybe find a friend that can help you with the plugs

Spark plugs just unscrew with a socket wrench, very simple unless they are stuck. In which case you shouldn't force them, just leave the old ones in and deal with it later when you really have to. When putting new plugs in be sure to put anti-seize compound on the threads and tighten them properly, too loose is bad as is too tight.
