Do the D15/16/17s use the same blocks? I know the ODB-1's and 2s are different, but are those the only differences?

no. there are many many similarities and a lot of them are the same but there are some distinct differences in some of them.

Would you care to highlight the specifics?

Let's see... bore and stroke? Why are you worried about the blocks anyway?

I know what the bores and strokes are, I'm just trying to find out which blocks are the same, and which aren't. Some circulate oil better than others, and I want to be sure I don't get one of the worse.

OBD-1. I have heard a nasty rumor that the y8's oil delivery was inferior to the z6, but then again I have read that it isn't as bad as people make it out to be.

D17's are sorely lacking in aftermarket support. Try to stick with the z6, y8, or the JDM D15 vtec. Of course Kappa will suggest a ZC, but I dont' know poo poo about them.

Rock the D, brotha.

Yeah, basically I was wondering if the D17 block shared the oiling issues with the Y series, and if the OBD-1 D15 and 16 were the same block.

I'm talking strictly the blocks, not the engines themselves.

I will tell you from hands on kinda stuff it is as bad as people say. My Y7 took a dump at 107,000 miles and was not beat on at all.

Can you confirm Marty? OBD-1 D15 = D16, and OBD-2 Y-series = D17?
