Default D16 Turbo

Hey guys,

Got a 2000 civic cx with original engine and tranny. The d-series as you guys know doesnt have alot of kick. Summer is coming and im looking to get some power in to it. Ive looked in to a b16a2 swap but the parts and labor seem to be expensive . The current power is 106 hp Im looking to get anywhere from 160-180 hp out of the car. It has 200k on it, engine is very well maintained, not burning oil. The other option seems to be forced induction. Is it a good idea? My budget is in 1000+ range. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

I suggest you dont boost because you already have 200k miles. A turbo setup puts a lot more stress on your engine and if you havent been maintaining your engine boost is probably not the best idea right now, but if everthing checks out you could boost and hell if it blows the engine you can just swap another one in for cheap like 200-300 bucks.

thanks for the info croninc, its a canadian car with 200, 000 kilometres on it, as far as I know the car is mechanically sound engine wise, what would I need to check to go thru with the turbo, Im not looking at astronomical gains. I was looking in to the t3/t4 ebay kits, their going for about 800, then there are the garetts and turbonetics, what do you think?

the ebay kits are fine imo, but i'd get one of the more complete kits for around 600 shipped with a cast iron manifold.

but... i still don't think you'll be able to safely boost with only 1000 USD(canadian?). tuning should cost about that much already, or at least it did with my ebay turbo d setup

yes, i agree that it's my personal opinion. if he doesn't want to listen to me then that's perfectly okay with me. on the other hand, i think it's inappropriate to say that i'm not allowed to give advice since i was unable to push the kit to it's limit.

no, i am not going to jump on the bandwagon that all knockoffs are crap, but i'm also not going to say that many of those theories don't have their merits. my point is, i'll do it again, i'd if someone asks, i will recommend it.

so have you ran a knockoff turbo kit that failed on you? if not then your reasoning should go along that you can't say they're crap also...
