Default d16y8

i have a 97 civic ex and the engine code is a d16y8. everywhere i have been to look for stuff says its a vtech. is there a vtech and a non vtech version of this motor? i have also noticed that the motor dosent have alot of power in the low end(up to 3000 rpm), are these motors known for lack of power? thanks

well first off its Vtec.... no H which is why the site ******s it out. LMFAO

BUT i believe the D16y8 is Vtec.... i know my 99civic is a D16y and is a vtec tho it doesnt say VTEC on the valve cover like the older D16Z6 motors which i like the valve cover looks of..... main giveaway is the VTEC solinoid.... if ya dont see it on the back left side of the valve cover than it isnt a vtec....

AND if its a AUTOMATIC tranny..... the car will feel doggie.LOL my 99automatic with Vtec blows in performance!!!!
my 94vtec manual feels so much beter in hp... but thats cause you control it beter......

with my 99vtec i dont realy feel hardly any power until it hits around 5K rpms......
anything under 4K rpms and you probably wouldnt feel any differnce from the Vtec and NON-vtec motor.....

D16Y8 = VTEC
D16Z6 = VTEC
D16Y7 = non-vtec

Im not sure why some people think that it must say "VTEC" on the valve cover for it to be a VTEC engine. My D16Z6 valve cover only said "HONDA" on it. VTEC engines can come with valve covers that dont say vtec. addiction is right, look for the VTEC solinoid. As for the power, well it is a 125hp engine.

You just can't get real low end with a 4 banger. A 4-2-1 header will help slightly but not much.

yea i figured that. the only import i ever had was a toyota 4wd and i know i cant compair it to that but i guess over all it lacks power compaired to other vtech's i have rode in.
