RE: D16Y8 build-up

blox and skunk2 make the best cams for honda, my opinion, and toda (expensive as hell). but get some hc pistons, upgrade the valvtrain, intake manifold, throttle body, and am ecu, and ull have a n/a sohc beast.

blox cams around 550
cam gears 200 or less
itantake manifold, 270 (how much i got mine for)
tb maybe 400 or less
vlavetrain 200
ecu 300.
dont know about the pistons though.

itll be a lot less for a d-series. and i dont think blox has released the sohc cam yet. but when they do, ill see if i can get a group buy.

sacicons, I looked, i gotta d16y8. Just curious.... are they tough engines? I heard they can take a serious beating. And are they strong enough to handle a s/c ?

RE: D16Y8 build-up

yo tell you the truth most sohc can got with a beating depending how you beat it for about a year. i had a friend running sohc all motor and was spraying 100 and it lasted for a year. soo yeh.....i say the way you treat your baby.

RE: D16Y8 build-up

my baby has 64000 miles on it. Works excellent other than the rattling heat shield of the manifold [:@] [:@] [:@] [:@] [:@] GOD I HATE THAT NOISE! NOBODY WILL CLEARLY TELL ME HOW TO REMOVE IT EITHER!

RE: D16Y8 build-up

the heat shield is held on by 4 bolts...just remover the 4 bolts and it will come right off

. .
.
. i think if your looking directly at the heat sheild thats where the bolts are...its been a while since i

took mine off ...in a Y pattern...2 on top 1 in middle and 1 in middle bottom

RE: D16Y8 build-up

is your intake hitting ur strut bar?

Remmy 02-08-2005 01:06 PM

RE: D16Y8 build-up

No it actually wasnt any of that, the pic I have with the red box was where the rattle was coming from. The dealer put it on the lift and found it was the A pipe, which happens to be right smack under the engine. Thats why I could here it from there. He put a couple of clamps on it and told me to have a nice day at no charge!!

RE: D16Y8 build-up

I have a really annoying radling every now and then cause my header, the flange the connects to the bracket behind the oil pan did not line up that well, I am actually cutting the srews tomorow, taking up on the lift and am goin to cut th dang thing.

sacicons 02-08-2005 06:46 PM

RE: D16Y8 build-up

just unbolt that little brace from the engine, all it does is tears that tab off the header. which isnt good for the header at all.[&:] had that problem with the SI, and had a huge exhaust leak, it sounded like a rough ass dune-buggy.[:@]
