RE: D16Y8 swap

A d16y7 will work, but you'll be losing performance (lower power and no vtec). If that's ok with you, then throw it in. You should be able to find either a D16y8 (96-00 civic ex) or a D16z6 (92-95 civic ex) for a few hundred pretty easily. They're both d-series (so they'll work with your transmission) and they're both vtec.

RE: D16Y8 swap

yeah, if you get a y7, you'll have to get the ecu to match.

z6 intake manifold might be better from a performance standpoint and your car will not pass emissions with an engine in it that is older than the car itself so be aware of that if you have emissions tests in your area. Also I want to point out that the D16Y8's from the 96-98 civics are not the same as the D16Y8's from the 99-00 civics. If you get the D16Y7 all you also need is the ecu.

RE: D16Y8 swap

You can, but there's some sensor you have to change or something like that. Also, I think you'd need to change to your y8 throttle body and intake.

RE: D16Y8 swap

alright thanks for all the info. now i wanted to ask whats a better deal a d16y7 with 140k miles for $300or a d16y7 with 82k miles for $550. is 140k miles a lot for a civic engine?

RE: D16Y8 swap

140k is nothing for a honda engine... provided it's been taken care of, of course
