Engine flush on 217k ... good or bad??
Well, my car is gonna be running again after a blown head gasket... Got the coolant system flushed out, now what would the best way to flush out the engine be so I know that theres not gonna be any antifreeze in there. I know with 217k it might be a bad idea to do the flush.
1. Should I put tranny fluid in the engine and let it idle for a lil while, then flush it with dino, then run syntec...
2. Just swap out the oil a few times...
I dont wanna kill the engine or cause any problems with the block... all the top gaskets will be new. Any advice on which route I should take?

actually one tech at my dealership swears by draining oil and filling with tranny fluid, running it for 15-30 minutes, then draining, change the filter, then add the new oil of your choice. he says the next time you change your oil it will still look clean(if your engine is in good running order and you change it at 3k)
That's what I want to do, but I'm worried about it causing leaks in the block... is there anything I should be worried about, like the rear main or anything?
i don't think you should worry, because it will only be in for like 15 minutes, a lot of dealerships use BG products and they make an engine flush kit, it costs aroun 20 dollars, it is something you might want to look into
i about swear by seafoam......has done wonders to my cars and trucks. got ride of the pinging and rough idle in my old 82 toyota p/u. can be used through the intake system, in the crank case, in the gas tank. if the engine is heavily gummed up though id be skeptikal of flushing the motor with a heavy type detergent as the buildup could end up in the oil pickup tube and loss of oil pressure may occur. pull the valve cover to get an idea of what your up against. ive seen 300k mile honda engines that only had slight varnish build up from being taken great care of.
