I have the same thing with my 95 civic DX. In the morning when the engine is cold it makes that kind of noise. My mechanic and many other people told me that my valves need to be adjusted. Also I heard when the engine is cold most of the oil is in the oil pan, and there is not enough oil on the head parts. When the engine warms up all of the oil circulates thru the head parts and rest of the engine and that when the noise goes away. I believe most of the Honda engines do that.

I think I've narrowed it down to either piston slap or the valves. This car was just bought off a dealer and came with a 3 month warrenty so I'm assuming they changed the oil before I bought it. Any thing I can do about this? Try a different oil?
