This pic will show you where to find the code. As for what they mean, differences, etc, use the SEARCH feature.

You have a D16Y7

I'll break it down for you

D = D series
16 = 1.6 liters of displacement
Y = the generation which is 96-00 obd2, 92-95 is obd1 and has a Z plus it tells the status of the engine
7 = the series/trim level which is the 106hp dx/lx engine. The 96-00 EX's have a 8 in it's place denoting 128hp/ex. The 96-00 HX has a 5 in it's place denoting 115hp/3 stage vtec economy/hx

I'll do a run through on a B series to show you

B16A1

B = B series
16 = 1.6 liter
A = performance oriented
1 = 1st generation

B18B

B = B series
18 = 1.8 liter
B = economy

D motors are also SOHC ( single over head cam)

these are DOHC...

B (civic,teg,lude)
H (accord, lude)
F (accord, s2000)
k(rsx/intega, new civic-r and crv)

DOHC's are pretty much better for performance.

For the most part, that's pretty accurate, but there are SOHC F-series and DOHC D-series motors.

The series of engine has nothing to do with it's cam setup

The old B20's in the ;ate 80's preludes were sohc
