Default h22a or a b18c type-r?

Hey guys Ive been considering 2 swaps for my eg civic (mind you it is a daily driver right now and probally will continue to be until hot summer when I need ac possibly) The two engine swaps that were offered to be done for me by a friend are either a b18c type r or a h22a both include everything. The h22a swap is about a $1000 less though to do but the type r also has 40000km documented. The way I look at it is that the type r would be simpler in the long run for maintainence etc, plus it probally would have good re-sale should I get rid of the car. Im not sure though, Ive heard good things about both.

Also I should mention that I was also interested in doing a swap myself, what would be the easiest, a b16a? I am not mechanically dumb and there is alot of great info on this website and others. Let me know what motor choice that you guy's think you would choose so I can see what a majority would choose!

I may do neither though for the sake that I could take that etra cash and buy myself a car with ac, although Im finding it hard in my area to sell my civic (its got 230000km on it now) I also have skunk2 coilovers and some nice wheels/tires that have been sitting in my garage for 3 years now when I first planned to do a swap.

Drew, you know how I feel about the H22

But if you want to boost, go with the Type-R... H22's aren't the best FI motors out there.

Off topic, but do you still have the 180? I haven't seen you posting about it in a few months.

Hey Chris its been a while hasn't it, yes I know you feel the same as me about the h22a basically lol, I dont think I would be boosting it, but that would be a hell of alot of fun in my old car. I think I may just h22a for the daily driving power, should be able to stay ahead of rush hour traffic with this motor lol in my hatch. I would probally just gut the car and the wheels I have are light as hell.

Chris check out my project thread I just updated it today! And Ive been watching yours in the shadows (not logging on lol) its pretty impressive how much work you can do and your just a young guy like me. I might have to bring my nissan across the border to get you to help me out lol, and then you could take her for a spin. Its winter here though so the 180 wont make it 2 feet once it leaves the comfort of a dry/warm garage lol!

I just checked the thread out... the s13's looking good.

And H22 + 2200lb hatch = wheelspin in 3rd

But yeah, being a professional mechanic definitely helps when you have a car you like to play with lol... the only problem with me working on the 180 is that Calgary is something like 33 hours away from Lexington lol. But if you'd drive, I'd be more than happy to work on it. And I don't know what you're talking about... I have tons of fun driving the mustang in the snow... drifting - tire wear =

I have been wondering about this myself, I wont be looking at doing a swap for a while here.. and it wont be in my current car. but im looking at getting another 5Th Gen, either a Hatch or the Sedan again... And if I do the swap im looking at going for a powerful NA Build... What would you guy's recommend for that. And on top of that, for the B18 and H22 swaps are we looking at mainly fabricating some new engine mounts?

Sorry if thats a stupid question, im sure i have to, i just have not done the research yet, and since this topic was here i figured i would kinda nose my way in ha ha.
Thanks,
Largen.

Well I'd say it's time to start doing some research, eh?

For a naturally-aspirated engine, you really can't beat the h22; 200bhp and 160ft*lbs of torque from the factory. I can't imagine what kind of a beast it'd be if you went all-out building it (high-comp pistons, lumpy cam, equal-length header, cat-back, individual throttle bodies, etc). If you have the money, a K-series will be the best way to go until a better engine comes out, but for the price, the H22 is an amazing engine.

For the H22, you'll need swap-specific axles and mounts; Hasport as well as quite a few other manufacturers make them. With the swap mounts, it's little more than a bolt-in affair; depending on what mount kit you use, you may or may not have to "persuade" a frame rail out of the way about half an inch. Also, you'll have to do a tiny bit of wiring, and you'll most likely have to make an extra hole in the floor for the shifter cables.

I'd say start researching the pros and cons of either engine, along with reading through some of the swap how-to's and decide for yourself what you want to swap to. If you want, I'll check tomorrow and see if I can find some good links with h22 information; I used to have bookmarks saved from several years' worth of research, but my HDD decided it was going to crash and I had to do a system restore, losing everything.

Also, Drew... if you're feeling up to it, H2B, LS trans, GSR final drive. A lot of torque, long gears to make use of the torque, and a 4.4:1 final drive making sure the car can still haul, even with the long gears. Maybe I shouldn't buy another civic this summer... I'm too good at making project lists lol

Ya, if you have some good links that would be sweet... But if you dont have them on hand dont worry about it. Im Quite Capable of finding these things, i just had not started and since someone had already asked the question right? XD And as for some "Persuasion" of things, im not worried. I have a WELL equipped shop.

Thanks again,
Largen.
