Default help! please!

so a week or two ago my alternator died on me and fried my battery in the process. i replaced both and now all the sudden it seems like my alternator is dying once more. all my lights basically shut off but the car will still drive. than when i shut it down and try to start it up again it wont turn over. any ideas on what could be causing this before i go spend a fortune at the dealer? any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

All cars have a primary and secondary electrical system. The primary side is what starts the car and keeps the car running. The secondary side is what goes to all the accessories in the car. Lights, radio, fans, etc. It's really alot deeper then that, but for your problem that should be enough info.

The first place to look at is the battery connection on the positive side and make sure that both the large and small wires have good connections. The next thing would be to check the connection on the negative side of the battery (both ends). But I would lean more to the + side for the cause.

Hope this helps.

that should not fry your battery..... it does sound like you have a charging problem tho.

Actually if the regulator (inside the alternator) were to go bad, it can cause the alternator to over charge the battery and will "fry" the battery if not caught in time.
