jdm legal?

yea i was lookin at jdm b16 and 18s and wanted to know if it is possible to get a jdm motor smoged in california. are they even legal, becuase for a few less horses i would just buy a usdm when i actually get to that piont.but for now im just doing research to see what i should do. after all, the olny motorwork i ever did was helping my frenid on his 87 toyota sr5 lol

thats what i thought, just takes to much money to build a d motor thats not even v tech.

b16a i have in my 93 Civic DX and it passed smog just okay, b18 i belive is a honda integra motor AKA GSR should be perfectly fine. buddie of mine got ak20sitting on 20 lbs of boost wiht a nos no one gives him problems o.o IN HIS CIVIC

i have a 98 civic and want to swap to a b18b and i shot a email to the hmotor guys and the guy told me to pass smog i will need a usdm ecu for the motor and install a ckf sensor on the oil pump housing and also i will need to get the same yr engine or newer to pass the stupid test. just send them a email and they will help u out. lemme know if he says something different cause and i want that b18b so bad but this is the only thing stopping me from doin it?![:@] anyways good luck

In order to pass SMOG anywhere, not just Cali you need to do the following.

Engine must be the same year or newer than the chassis

Must have the stock ECU working, with no CELs which means that all USDM sensors must be installed and working.
Must have catalytic converter.
OBD1 needs a working O2 sensor, OBD2 needs both working primary and secondary.
Transmission doesn't matter.

so basically with a jdm engine theirs no way to pass inspection in the united states besides paying someone off?

Naw the way there describeing it is the expensive, but on the other hand never have to worrie about passing smog. my b16 civic wont pass because im just running headers on2 1/2 pipes so yeah. i just pay my friend off
