i have a 92 civic hatchback with stock d series motor in it, for some reason the car chokes when i try keeping it at a constant speed, i'm not too good with cars so i'm not sure what could be the problem. i think it might have something to do with my spark plug wires and my spark plugs u think? well please help me on this. i realli would appreciate it. thank you!

 

You can always try there, if that doesnt fix it, check the distributor next

 

how would i know if the distributor is bad or not?

for the spark plugs i need to change them so i'm not even gonna realli bother those, for the spark plug wires all i need to do is see if it sparks right?.

i cant help you with distributor thing. your best bet is to search the topic.
does the car surge at idle? (rpm's bounce up and down without applying the gas?), i had this problem and it was a dirty air control valve on the back of the intake manifold. i cleaned it and it took care of the problem for about a day, then i ended up having to replace it. my car was acting terribly with the bad air control valve. whenever i pushed the clutch in the car jumped, when i accelerated the car jumped and shook like crazy, like that of a new driver learning manual and the jumping you get when rpms get too low without gas. but it happens when gas is even applied. the cruise control will also not work with a bad air control valve.

 

no, the only crazy thing about my idling is that its realli low when it heats up. its probably at like 0.2 or 0.3 rev. i dont know why. i tried putting my idle higher. but nothing still the same.

 

Sounds like bad spark plug wires or plugs. Change them out and if it doesnt fix it it may be the distributor cap which should come with spark plug wires and while you have that off change the rotor in the distributor housing. Other than those it might be a sensor but I have had a similiar problem and it was just my plug wires. If you have a check engine light get it checked at advanced auto and that should tell you more.

 

yeah once in a while my check engine light comes on, but it does after a few sec. or sometimes even min. but thankx for ur answer i'll get it check APRECIATE IT!
