PAST 9000??????
ok last night i got in like the first real street race in my new si and when i shifted down to 4th and i went into second and i did it so fast that i didnt have time really to react to it until i heard it scream and when i looked the tach was past 9. It scared the **** out of me so i let it wind down for that 1 or 2 seconds of shock and then slammed the clutch, the guys i was racing said it would be alright....what do ya'll think?
you should be fine, as long as you don't high-rev it a lot... overrevving isn't extremelty terrible on the engine, so long as it doesn't happen often.
Maybe get a rev-limiter and not have to worry about it from now on?

so if i had a rev limiter effect a situation like that...cause i know if i rev to 8300 (i think ) it stops me from going higher, but in that case i don't know how it would help me...i mean if it would then cool, how do i get it or what is it that i need to get.
Not sure what year SI you have (or if new implies 8th Gen), but I know in my mom's 06 EX, it has a rev limitier stock...Would that stop the revs in a situation like that though? I would think that if you were going 80 in 5 and went to second, that you're going to go too high no matter what.
I've always wondered that also. Fuel cut is the only thing I could think off that could stop it. As the clutch engages on a downshift, rpms would rise fromnothing to where ever (dependent on speed) pretty rapidly, but computers work fast too. Maybe fast enough that it could sense when that rpm limit was hit or breeched, and cut the fuel until the car slowed down, or you shifted to a higher gear. Just a guess.
yeah, i don't quite understand how it could be prevented but then again theres prolly gonna be some guy whos gonna come up with a logical perfect way and make me feel dumb. But anythings possible these days...
he has an 00 si, I have a 99 si. Mine has a rev limiter stock at 8k. Whenever you hit it, it feels like the revs sort of bounce off a boundary until you let off. Its hard to describe, it feels liek when you downshift but ti does that constantly till the RPMs fall. But there are plenty of piggy backs and such out there that eliminate the rev limiter.
yeah i forgot to mention i had the 00. Well, my guess is if i tried to gas it at the RPM i was at, it wouldnt have let me but it didnt suddenly wind down kinda like when you hit your rev limit cause i know the bounce thing your talkin bout when you rev UP to your limit, but on the downshift it just slowly winded down based on the wheels, yuh know what i mean...killed my ears...until i hit the clutch
