it is a process of machining the head to get more air by making the ports bigger "port" and smoothing them for better flow "polishing". It is a good thing to do if you plan to add FI or big cams, etc. I have D15B that is ported and polished and it definitely breathes easier and works well with my cam.

its not manditory. you wont gain much power from it unless you're already running a decent amount (IE. more than 200 on a D)

Sorry about this.....but what are the ports in the head?

And when you port things, can you do it yourself by simply sanding them down? Or do you bring it to a shop where they grind them down and whatnot?

i heard its a good idea to p & p before you turbo because then it will have easier air flow? does this really help that much or is it just a myth?

its true. especially with compressed air. on a decently tuned turbod car it will give you quite a bit of power...i cant tell you how much because ive never done it or know anyone who has...but i think its a good 20-25hp...maybe more.

You can do it yourself, some stores sell a p&p kits for about $60 and all you need is a die grinder. However, if you take it to a good shop they will be able to do a much better job than you b/c they have flow benches. This shop does P&P, valve jobs, etc. Thier stage three P&P costs $1000. You ship them your head and they send it back with the work you asked them to do. It should give you an idea of how much it will cost.
