So what is the actual process of P&P? Is it really just sanding/grinding down the ports? Anybody have any before/after pics?

your grinding all the holes bigger for more air flow. Its very redundant and very minimal unless you have alot of other stuff done. You need the full system from intake to exhaust. porting your head when your intake wont support more air is pointless. porting your head when your exhaust cant get rid of the extra air is pointless. porting your throttle body when your head wont take in more air is pointless... you get the idea? also porting heads on turbo cars is a waste of money and should be the absolute last mod you do. The heads flow well enough that if you can take more air into the motor just up the boost. If your turbo is pushing max boost and you want more airflow THEN port the head but at that point you really need a bigger turbo. The only thing that is worth while is getting the combustion chamber worked with a 3 angle valve job and unshrouding the valves.

Berz out.

porting your making the ports larger by grinding it and polishing is done to make a smoth finnish after porting or polishing can be done alone just to take the rough bumps out of the ports from the casting. And P & P helps on turbo cars also with cars that have larger cam or are starving for air.

like what berz said...its one of the last things you do. its the same concept that tells us an axle-back exhaust wont add any performance to your car and a catback will.

my street porting only consists of cleaning up the runners and slightly modifying the bowls along with polishing the exh side. you get more flow out of working the bowls than you do the ports. bigger ports are nice but re working the bowls for a straighter shot is more worth the effort. be carefull if you decide to port yourself. its pretty easy to grind down into the water jackets if you dont know how far to go. but just cleaning the ports of all casting and polishing the exh will help some. but really p&p only helps if you can take advantage of the extra flow. bigger cam(s), high comp, fi........
