okay, this is kind of a broad topic, but I'll cover everything as best as I can:

first off, it's the ecu itself that detirmines the rev-limiter. For the actual redline, well there's a lot of math that goes into that. Redline is based on how high the valvetrain can rotate safely.

Next, indicated redline on a z6 is 7200. I'm not sure about every z6, but in mine, the rev-limiter is set at 6600, so I can't rev anyhigher than that anyway. Now, on a stock valvetrain, there is no reason to spin the engine any faster than this, since peak horsepower is also reached at 6600rpm. This means that if you rev the engine any higher, you'll actually begin losing power. Now if you have an aftermarket cam, you might be able to gain more power in ahigherrev range. Just remember that you should upgrade your valvetrain (valves, valve springs, retainers) if you plan on doing any high-rpm driving. I've seen cams that don't even begin to make power until 8000 rpm. That's well past the stock valvetrain's limits.

ok thanks im planing on getting a skunk stage 2 camshaft but i didnt know if the camshaft alone would raise the rpm or if it was the ecu rev limiter but thanks alot.

If you have a D16Z6 get a ZEX cam, do they even make S2 cams for the Z6? Also my stock Z6 loses power after 7500 rpm
