Default Skunk2 cams

is anyone using skunk2 stage cams? Im thinking about getting some and just wondering how much hp and torque i can expect to gain from them. They are going into a B16 with valves, valve springs, and retainers. Thanks

I assume you meant Skunk2 stage 2.
if you have aftermarket springs and retainers already, then do it. those are mean cams, youll love them. its like 20+ hp from b16a cams.

if read the august issue of import tuner they have an article on the upgrade skunk2 cams. they added just about 20-30 alone. i also reccomend that you get the retainers and springs for more performance.

Is it possible to put a stage 2 cam on a stock valvetrain? Or should the springs ect. be upgraded as well?

yes its possible but you should upgrade all of them for the best results plus since your taking out the cams you might as well put the rest of the head parts

on stage 2s you will break something. valve float sucks. upgrade the valvetrain first.

Do those stage 2 cams have a rough idle? or are they still street/daily driven worthy? I know that for the preformance you have to sacrafice some comfort.

no, thats the beauty of vtec, you can have a nice smooth idle with good low-end, and still have a screaming race cam on the high end. that rough idle is from the cams being too big to let enough compression build in the cylinders to keep it running right, so it actually starts running in an 8-cycle, instead of a 4-cycle. it only makes a power stroke every 8 cycles instead of four. so you can imagine how much power you can lose on the low-end with a cam big enough to give you a lumpy idle. but it does sound bad ***.
