Threw a Rod! :{
Yup, that's right, I threw a Freak'n rod. I am fighting the dealership who last changed my oil. They didn't tell me that I had problem with my pan. which they did tell me when I took it in after throughing the rod. which a month after the oil change.
Any ways, I was running the stock engine in my 99' 5spd civic 2dr EX. I want to upgrade to a higher performance engine. I am new to the scene and would greatly appreciate any tips and direction. My questions are simple.
What engine should I get?
How much should I expect to pay?
What Clutch discs should I get? (might as well replace them while I'm there)
How easy or hard is it to replace the engine myself?
Where should I go?
I would like to take it to a shop that specializes in high performance but i don't want to sell my soul or my organs.
I live in Southern California and I know there are places here I just can't remember the names.

The cheapest option is to rebuild your engine, if the block hasn't been broken due to the rod. There are many options. You can get a D series engine, which will be the cheapest swap. You could get a B20, B16, B18C1, or B18C5. I think i put those in order of price. You can also get an H22 swap, which is about the same as a B series swap. The H22 costs about he same as a B18C1 but has more power and more torque. The engine is also pretty big so you will need new mounts. The added weight of the H22 also reduces the handling, or so i've heard. You could also get a K20 from an RSX Type-S, which will be the most expensive swap. As for if you can do it, i dunno since i've never done one. How much experiance have you had with cars? You will need a cherry picker. I will do my own swap when time comes.
